8 & UNDER RULES
Any child who is 8 years of age as of August 13, 2022 is eligible to enter the Ogden 8 & Under World Champion Barrel Race.
The race will consists of two long rounds. The first round will be run on Saturday and the second round will be run on Sunday morning. The top 10 fastest combined times on two runs will advance to the short round immediately following the running the 4D Youth on Sunday.
Entry fee and added money will be divided equally between each go round, paying out – 1st long go, 2nd long go, Finals, and Average.
Champion of the 8 & Under will be awarded a saddle. Reserve champion will receive a buckle.
All 8 & Under contestants will receive prizes.
8 & Under contestants may carry their times over to the 4D Youth, and 4D Open. Carry overs must be indicated in the correct box on the entry form when entering if entering the Youth or Open in addition to the 8 & Under. If there is not an indication the contestant wants to carry over, the entry will be entered in the draw for the additional class entered and must run in that class, in addition to the 8 & Under. Carry overs must be indicated before the contestant runs in the 8 & Under.
Contestants are required to check in Saturday morning at a designated time to be announced by show producers.
No dress code is required to compete, but is requested. A Best-Dressed Award will be announced on Saturday and Sunday to anyone who wants to participate. Participation is not mandatory.
Dress code is required for pictures on Sunday morning.
Riders may switch horses in the 8 & Under; however, if there is a horse change and the rider has also entered the Youth and/or Open, they will not be eligible for average awards in those classes.
4D YOUTH RULES
The 4D Youth is open to anyone 19 years of age or younger as of August 12, 2022.
Awards will be presented to the average champions in each D based on horse/rider combination. Average awards will be presented based on the Saturday/Sunday runs. You must enter both days before your Saturday run to be eligible for the average awards. Average is determined on combined times for two days same horse and rider combination. Splits will be fastest time +1 sec for 2D, fastest time +2 sec for 3D and fastest time +4 sec for 4D.
Entries must be received for both days before the rider makes their first run in order to be eligible for average awards. Horse changes will disqualify rider from the average.
Riders may carry times over to the Open and must indicate carry overs on the entry form in the appropriate box at the time of entry.
Division splits will be 1⁄2, 1⁄2, 1.
OPEN 4D AND GENERAL RULES
Vet and medical releases must be received by mail or fax before 9 am on the day the draw is scheduled to be posted. (Processing fee are non-refundable). No exceptions!!! After this, vet outs will be accepted, by hand delivery, at the show office at least one hour before the first horse runs on Friday. All vet out refunds will be processed approximately within 10 days after the show. There are no exceptions to the rule, so please don’t ask.
Horse substitutions and other changes must be made in the Show Office 1 hour before your run for a charge of $10. All changes must be requested in writing on a change form and must be made before your run. No rider substitutions.
No switching of draw positions. No dress code will be enforced.
All reruns will be the decision of the Arena Director. Rerun will be on a fresh drag. Arena Director’s decisions are FINAL. A horse falling during the run will not receive a rerun.
Failure to answer 3 gate calls in a 60 second time period will result in an Official scratch, no excuses. There is just no way to handle this many entries and runs if you’re not on time and ready when it’s your turn.
A horse/rider combination may enter the race only once. However, more than one person will be allowed to ride the same horse, just not more than once. You may enter as many horses as you wish. (This is a variation of the family rule). We believe it to be fairer and a more just way of leveling the playing field.
Contestants will receive a no time for knocking over a barrel or breaking the pattern and they may or may not receive a time from the announcer. Once a barrel has been knocked over or the pattern broken that will end the competition for that run. The contestant may finish the pattern, but the horse is not to be trained, schooled or exhibitioned for the remainder of the pattern.
A roll of the dice or flip of the coin between contestants tied will handle tie for awards. (High number wins.) Should all contestants involved in the tie not be present, the ones present will participate and a staff member will roll for the one(s) not present.
Late fee will apply if entry is not postmarked by entry deadline. Postage machine dates DO NOT qualify as postmarks. Late entries will be taken at the show and must be received before the last 25 horses run. Late entries will run after all pre-entries. Late fees do not apply to Incentive Races; however, they must be entered prior to your run.
Number of places paid per division in all races will be:
Places – Number of Entries
Payback will be 80% Payback of entry fees and 100 % of added money. Payout – 4D format with 1⁄2 , 1⁄2, 1 splits.
A contestant may enter an incentive race up to one hour before their run, but preferably at the time they originally enter. If all placings in a division are not filled, remaining
placings will be divided proportionally amongst that division.
Negative coggins required. Health papers if applicable.
Once a contestant has entered the competition arena they must maintain a forward motion. Under no circumstances will a contestant be allowed to circle their horse once they have entered the arena. Such circling will result in a disqualification and a no time.
The total jackpotted entry fees of a class is to be divided 35% to the 1st Division, 30% to the 2nd Division, 20% to the 3rd Division, and 15% to the 4th Division.
Contestants MUST check in with the show office before their run should the posted draw note ‘Must See Office’ under the horse name. Anyone not checking in will be disqualified no exceptions!
Published awards and win checks will be available after the show, once the contestant has provided the show office with a completed W-9 form – and can only be picked up by the person whose name is on the check (an exception to this would be a minor with the parent or guardian present). For winnings not picked up at the conclusion of the show, contestants MUST provide the office with a completed W-9 form – once the form is received, checks will be mailed to the address listed on the entry form within 10 business days following receipt of W9 form.
